And absolutely for Pierre alone to decide. However, the forum software allows the display of a banner heading, so the new names could be announced clearly, with guidance on how to search the forum.Ī bold suggestion, and I wouldn't want to take any responsibility for the consequences, but looking to the next 20 or 30 years of and taking Pierre up to retirement, if he ever does. For other uses, it is licensed as commercial software. It is licensed as freeware for private, educational and non-profit uses. It's the ubiquitous Swiss Army knife image viewer that fits my needs. The transition would itself cause some confusion, of course, and I'm not sure what the consequences would be for the forum in the short term. XnView is an image organizer and general-purpose file manager used for viewing, converting, organizing and editing raster images, as well as general purpose file management. It comes with built-in hex inspection, batch renaming and screen capture tools. XnView works on a generous freemium model that is free for non-commercial use with a modest 30 price for commercial users. So single words for both starting with Xn for consistency with other XnView software, and names that can't easily be confused. It's apparently a complete rewrite of the older XnView software. The newer version is supposed to be much faster (and makes good use of multi-core CPUs). With XnView MP now nearing version 1.00, I wonder if it might be a good time to look to the future and consider renaming both existing programs to avoid future confusion, to for example XnClassic (or other, better name) and XnUltra (or other, better name) XnView MP is a newer product that's Multi-Platform (Windows, OS X, Linux), versus Windows only like the original XnView software. XnView software has usually been released with a single-word name ( XnView and XnViewMP until recently), XnConvert, XnRetro, XnSketch, XnShape, plus NConvert (command line). In addition, posters often refer to 'XnView' within posts, even when posting in the correct forum section. Works well for me, except that while it is 'color aware', it is not 'color managed'. However, confusion still continues to some extent, and the single-word name is also still used to some extent, as in the executable file xnviewmp.exe for example, so not a perfect solution. Ive been a long time Faststone user - mostly for quick viewing and image culling - less so for editing. The name was changed from XnViewMP to XnView MP when, following frequent confusion between XnViewMP and the original program XnView, it was decided to rename the original program to XnView Classic, and for consistency, including in the forum headings, to refer to XnViewMP also using two words as XnView MP. I would love to see consistency of the name on anything related to software (folders, shortcut, file description, product name, etc) if possible for the better.
